At a weekend campaign event for presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, Przemysław Czarnek - a key political ally from the opposition conservative Law and Justice party and former education minister - criticized Zelensky, saying he "acted like a fool" during his visit to the United States to seek further aid.
His remarks came after a tense discussion in the Oval Office, where Zelensky and Trump failed to finalize a deal on rare earth minerals, a key issue in U.S.-Ukraine relations.
The comment prompted a sharp response from Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, who called it arrogant and accused Czarnek of echoing Russian propaganda that undermines European security.
On social media, Bodnar stated, "Przemysław Czarnek’s remarks about Ukraine and its President are arrogant and unacceptable," adding that questioning Ukraine’s independence directly threatens Poland and Europe.
Czarnek pushed back, accusing the ambassador of misrepresenting his words and arguing that Ukraine should show gratitude for international support.
Polish presidential chief of staff and Law and Justice (PiS) politician Marcin Mastalerek also weighed in, telling TVN24 that no responsible politician should refer to a foreign leader in such terms.
