According to the Polish edition of Newsweek magazine, PiS – now in opposition after eight years in government – has issued internal guidance to its lawmakers on how to defend Nawrocki and criticise a former carer of the man who sold him a flat in Gdańsk years ago.

The memo, referred to as a “daily message”, reportedly urges members to emphasise that Nawrocki acted legally and at the elderly man’s request, while drawing attention to unrelated housing scandals from the past.

PiS issues bold red talking points to defend candidate in housing scandal

This is how the right-wing populist party PiS clearly marked its "message of the day" in bold red text:

"Dear Sir/Madam, in light of the attack on Karol Nawrocki, we kindly ask you to stick to the following message in the media:

(IMPORTANT: start your statement with this) Everything was done fairly and legally. The entire apartment was paid for. Everything was done at Mr. Jerzy's request, and Karol Nawrocki’s actions saved Mr. Jerzy from homelessness.

Do not measure us by your standards, as the real housing scandal occurred in Warsaw during Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz's time, when Trzaskowski was her campaign chief: eviction of tenants, taking apartments for pennies from 128-year-olds, the death of Mrs. Brzeska."

PiS daily briefings shed light on deeper party troubles

The so-called “daily messages” are internal briefings issued by PiS to its MPs, sympathetic media outlets, and supporters. These short, emotionally charged instructions are designed to coordinate responses and reinforce party messaging. Such practices – rare in Poland’s post-communist history – have drawn criticism for their centralized nature.

The practice is seen as one of the factors behind PiS’s loss of power after eight years in office. The recent controversy surrounding their presidential candidate has only sharpened focus on the party’s internal challenges.
