“Congratulations to Szymon Hołownia on the court victory. Lies must be called out. Sławomir Mentzen should apologize to Speaker Hołownia during the debate proposed by the Third Way candidate - not run away from it,” Trzaskowski wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.
A Polish court has ordered far-right presidential candidate Sławomir Mentzen to retract false claims made against Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia. Mentzen accused Hołownia of inviting illegal migrants to parliament - a statement the court deemed untrue. The ruling is final, and Mentzen's electoral committee from the Confederation party has not yet made a decision.
The allegation referred to a Christmas event hosted by Hołownia for people facing severe hardship, including the homeless, individuals with disabilities, the ill, and refugees.
Mentzen had 24 hours to appeal the decision. Responding on X, Hołownia wrote: “Mentzen is a liar - that’s what the court ruled. 3:0, another win and the promised hat-trick.
“Shall we keep playing, Mr. Mentzen?” he asked rhetorically.
In response to the court ruling, Mentzen posted a video on social media, claiming, "It's not true that Hołownia posted a photo with illegal migrants. He simply took a picture with migrants who were legalized by Tusk's government."
