Poland’s National Institute of Public Health approved the tests for production on Friday.
The Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry aims to start production next week, and produce 100,000 tests a week.
According to the institute, the Polish tests will be several times cheaper that those currently available on the international market.
Amid the spread of the coronavirus, the government has advised citizens to practice social distancing, while also imposing a wide range of restrictions on daily life.
A total of 5,955 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 181 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Friday.
