Poll finds one-third of Poles support compulsory military service

One-third of Poles support bringing back compulsory military service in the country, according to a new poll.

In a survey, conducted by the Social Changes pollster for the wPolityce.pl website, 34 percent were in favor of reinstating conscription, 43 percent were against, and 23 percent had no opinion.

Asked what type of military service they most support, 56 percent of respondents indicated voluntary basic military service. Compulsory universal basic military service was supported by 19 percent of respondents, 13 percent favored basic military service, but not for everyone, while 12 percent expressed opposition to the principle of conscription itself.

The survey was conducted between December 30, 2022, and January 2, 2023, on a representative sample of 1,051 Polish people.
