Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was asked about Kaczyński’s potential return to the Cabinet at a press conference on Wednesday, state news agency PAP reported.
Morawiecki said: “We’ll discuss this at a meeting of the party’s political committee on Thursday. Afterwards, we’ll communicate our decisions.”
Earlier in the day, senior Law and Justice MP Ryszard Terlecki told reporters in parliament that Kaczyński’s return to government would be designed “to strengthen the position of the prime minister,” the PAP news agency reported.
Terlecki said the Law and Justice leader’s return to the Cabinet “can’t be ruled out” and that "relevant decisions will likely be made in late June.”
Terlecki stated: “Our aim is to strengthen the position of the prime minister. To ensure that bills are no longer rushed to parliament ahead of the elections [scheduled for the autumn], which is an example of departmental thinking, without considering government policy as a whole.”
According to the gazeta.pl website, Kaczyński is considering a return to the government to put a stop to political infighting within the United Right coalition and to bolster the ruling conservatives’ election campaign.
Kaczyński, who quit his government role in June last year after 20 months in the Cabinet, may be mulling a return as a deputy prime minister, gazeta.pl reported.
