The move enables the country to submit formal payment requests.

Following the approval, Poland’s Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, announced that the country plans to submit two more payment requests in September.

According to the development ministry, the funds from these subsequent payments are expected to reach Poland by the end of 2024. Poland could receive up to EUR 60 billion in total from the KPO, contingent upon meeting specific commitments known as milestones.

Amid a previous dispute over Poland’s rule of law, the European Commission had frozen EU funds for the country. However, after Poland met some EU milestones, the KPO was unfrozen in February, leading to the first tranche of EUR 6.3 billion being released in April.

Poland initially requested changes to the KPO on April 30, which were subsequently approved by the European Commission on July 2.
