On Friday, a global Microsoft outage affected many companies and institutions worldwide. Microsoft Poland spokesperson Anna Klimczuk explained that the issue stemmed from two problems: one related to the Azure platform and another to an update of the CrowdStrike antivirus software.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz assured that the outage does not threaten Poland's security, and critical infrastructure continues to function without disruption. Microsoft confirmed issues with Azure configuration, which are currently being analyzed and addressed.

What caused the global cyber outage?

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz revealed that the outage was due to a bug in the Falcon software update for Windows devices, which has led to the affected computers showing a blue screen, often known in tech terms as the "blue screen of death."

Cybersecurity expert Piotr Konieczny explained that the issue can be resolved by deleting a single file, but this requires administrator privileges, which are typically not available to end users.

The outage affected many industries, including aviation and finance, leading to the cancellation of 1,390 flights worldwide, while Polish airports, despite the difficulties, operated relatively smoothly.
