In an interview with Polish Radio 24, Lieutenant Colonel Maciej Korowaj, an analyst for Polish portal Defence24.pl, discussed the recruitment strategies and targets of these agencies.
In recent months, several blazes have occurred in Poland, which are being analyzed by the country’s services for potential foreign agency involvement. These incidents include fires on Marywilska Street in Warsaw, in the Nowy Port district of Gdańsk, and bus fires in Bytom.
While the causes of these incidents may vary, Korowaj believes that recruitment by Russian and Belarusian special services in Poland is a significant task. "They have extensive structures dedicated to building resources for sabotage activities," the expert told Polish Radio 24.
Recruitment, according to Korowaj, is often conducted among individuals who may not be aware they are working for these agencies.
"Different scenarios are used, such as leveraging individuals from the criminal environment where money can buy anything," Korowaj explained.
He added that recruitment can also occur under various disguises, like posing as a businessman wanting to set fire to a business to claim insurance money.
