Polish women’s chess players triumphed over the top-ranked Indian team with a score of 2.5 to 1.5 in the eighth round of the Chess Olympiad taking place in Budapest.
Monika Soćko and Alina Kaszlińska each won their games, Alicja Śliwicka ended in a draw, and Aleksandra Malcewska was defeated.
The Polish team currently holds second place with 14 points, tied with the first-place Indian team and the Kazakh team in third, who will compete against Poland on Friday.
The success of the Polish female chess players is truly remarkable, as they managed to defeat the Indian women's team, which had previously won everything during the chess Olympiads.
The men’s team also achieved victory today against North Macedonia, finishing with a score of 2.5 to 1.5. Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Mateusz Bartel both won their matches, while Szymon Gumularz drew and Kacper Piorun lost.
With 11 points, the Polish men’s team has advanced to 28th place, while India remains in the lead. On Friday, Poland will go up against the Czech Republic, with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday.
