This gesture of respect will also be joined by the Polish Border Guard and firefighters, honoring the 34-year-old policeman who died in the line of duty.
"On the day of the funeral, precisely at 12:00 PM, let police sirens and flashing lights resonate throughout the country as a sign of respect for Marcin. We ask the media to respect the privacy and peace of his family and loved ones," the Polish Police announced on social media.
The fatal incident occurred last weekend when a patrol responded to a call about a man armed with a machete causing a disturbance.
During a struggle with the suspect, one of the officers fired a weapon, accidentally striking his partner in the chest. Officer Biernacki was taken to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The prosecutor's office has charged the officer who fired the weapon with exceeding his authority, unjustified use of a firearm, and causing the death of his colleague. Prosecutors sought to detain him temporarily, but the court denied the request.
The officer is under police supervision, suspended from duty, and must report to his local precinct five times a week. He is also prohibited from contacting witnesses or approaching the location of the incident. Additionally, he has been required to post a bail of 50,000 PLN (approximately $13,000 USD).
