Speaking in an interview with public broadcaster TVP Info on Monday, Sikorski said the 20-percent tariffs imposed on the European Union by the Trump administration could be painful for Europeans, including Polish businesses.
"Polish companies will be the ones paying these tariffs," Sikorski said. However, he argued that the broader consequences of shifts in American trade policy under Trump may fall more heavily on the US economy.
"We can see what's happening on the stock markets, and soon this will impact the purchasing power of Americans," Sikorski told TVP Info.
He highlighted the strategic advantage of Poland's EU membership.
"Thank God we are in the EU," he said. "As the European Union—an economy equal in size to that of the United States—we have options to choose from."
He added that these options include either taking immediate action or waiting for negotiations.
