Polish borders under control despite increased pressure, interior minister says

On Monday, 25 August, Poland’s Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński held a meeting with security chiefs and regional governors to discuss the situation at the country’s borders.

“It seems that the border situation is under control and very calm. We can see that the stricter we are on the Polish-Lithuanian border, the more Lukashenko’s forces choose to increase pressure along the original route we have faced, namely the Belarusian direction,” the minister said.

“We are a hospitable country. We support Ukraine and are doing everything to help it win this war. However, anyone who breaks our laws, regardless of nationality, must understand that they will not be treated as a guest in Poland. We will respond firmly and decisively,” he added.

Kierwiński also announced that Deputy Interior Ministers Czesław Mroczek and Maciej Duszczyk will hold meetings on Monday with their counterparts from Lithuania and Latvia to discuss further joint measures to tighten security along the Polish-Lithuanian border.
