The tremor, recorded at 4:44 a.m. about 500 meters underground, had a magnitude of 2.3, broadcaster TVN24 reported, citing information earlier shared on social media by the Polish Mining Group.

Forty-two miners working in the affected area were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported, according to the company.

Residents told TVN24 they felt strong shaking lasting several seconds, with one woman saying she “thought it was an earthquake” as furniture and glass rattled in her home.

Mining-related tremors are relatively common in Poland's southern Silesia region, but Wednesday’s was among the strongest felt in recent months.
