Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha attended the opening on Monday.
"I’m really happy today. We’re opening a consulate in a special city, in Rzeszów," Sybiha said, adding that the new post was important for strengthening Polish-Ukrainian relations and deepening people-to-people ties.
"From such small diplomacy, big diplomacy always starts," he told reporters.
Rzeszów is home to about 20,000 Ukrainians, with roughly 60,000 Ukrainians living in the broader Podkarpackie region, Polish state news agency PAP reported..
Ukraine's consul in Rzeszów, Vasyl Jordan, said the new office would help residents handle official matters more easily and assist Polish citizens planning to travel to Ukraine.
Sybiha thanked Poland for its support since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022.
"Poland is also a country where Ukrainians found their second homes, and many Poles opened their hearts and homes to our citizens," he said.
He presented the Amber Heart award to regional governor Teresa Kubas-Hul and Deputy Rzeszów Mayor Krystyna Stachowska for their communities' contributions to supporting Ukraine.
Sybiha noted that President Volodymyr Zelensky designated Rzeszów a "rescuer city" three years ago in recognition of its role in aiding Ukraine.
