Galicka was an acclaimed art historian and a lecturer at the European Academy of Art.
In 1964, Galicka and another art historian Hanna Sygietyńska found The Ecstasy of St Francis, a lost masterpiece painted around 1580 by famous Renaissance painter El Greco, in a small town in Poland.
The work by the Greek-born Spanish artist was located in a rural parish in Kosów Lacki, eastern Poland. The precious painting was hanging on a wall over a sofa in a priest’s flat.
In October this year, Galicka was presented with the Gloria Artis Gold Medal of Cultural Merit in recognition of her contribution to Polish culture.
