Jerzy Targalski told broadcaster Radio Wnet: "This is part of a game with Europe. Blaming Poland over the evil of World War II aims to remove responsibility from Germany.”
He added: “For European lefties, Poland is a fascist country. This is also about reaching out to the European left, [which is ] totally loony and detached from reality."
Putin’s recent claims blaming Poland over the outbreak of WWII triggered anger in Warsaw. Polish President Andrzej Duda accused the Russian leader of “post-Stalinist revisionism.”
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Putin “has lied about Poland on numerous occasions, and he has always done it deliberately.”
Meanwhile, Targalski criticised ceremonies planned for later this month in Jerusalem to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German Auschwitz death camp.
Poland's Duda has said he will not take part in the World Holocaust Forum because the organisers had not allowed him to speak at the event, unlike his counterparts from Russia, Israel, Germany and France.
Targalski said the meeting would be a piece of “propaganda effrontery directed against Poland, justifying Russia's superpower role as an ally of progressive forces.”
He added that he supported Duda’s decision not to attend the meeting in Jerusalem.
