Easing of lockdown in Poland has not led to infections spike: health ministry

A relaxation of coronavirus lockdown rules in Poland has not triggered a spike in infections so far, a health ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

Wojciech Andrusiewicz also said that since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Poland in early March, 45 percent of all those who were infected have now recovered.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was on Wednesday expected to the announce the latest stage of easing rules imposed by the government to curb the COVID-19 disease.

Some restrictions were relaxed last month, and hotels and shopping malls were allowed to reopen in early May.

A total of 21,867 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 1,013 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, 10,020 people have recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry said.
