Deputies were expected to consider the proposal on Tuesday, along with a new “Good Samaritan” rule under which medical staff who have to treat coronavirus patients will not be punished if they make mistakes.

The debate was postponed after opposition politicians argued they needed more time to consider the government’s plans to fight the epidemic.

An opposition-backed motion to delay the debate unexpectedly won support in the lower house.

Ryszard Terlecki, a deputy Speaker of the parliament and a member of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, accused the opposition of “obstruction.”

Poland on Tuesday reported 9,291 new coronavirus infections and 107 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases to 192,539 and fatalities to 3,721.
