A judgement by Facebook “that the film has a political character totally blocks its promotion abroad,” said Kornelia Zaborska from Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), which documents and seeks to prosecute crimes against the Polish nation.

The film, which was premiered on the Facebook page of a division of the IPN in December, “is absolutely not political,” Zaborska added.

The documentary is about a camp set up by German occupiers in the central Polish city of Łódź in 1942.

Due to the high death rate of the children held there, the camp was called the "Little Auschwitz,” state news agency PAP reported.

The camp was intended for Polish children aged from 6 to 16, but children as young as several months old were also detained there, according to PAP.

The news agency added that children were sent to the camp for petty theft, riding on trams without a ticket and for begging.

The facility was also used as a prison for young people suspected of being part of the resistance fighting the country’s German invaders.
