Poland reports 1,516 new coronavirus cases, 191 more deaths

Poland on Saturday reported 1,516 new coronavirus infections and 191 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,864,546 and fatalities to 72,882.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Saturday, at 198.

Of the new cases confirmed on Saturday, 189 were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

Meanwhile, 157 new infections were reported in Lower Silesia, a province in southwestern Poland.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 147 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 44 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Friday, Poland confirmed 191 deaths and 1,679 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 250 deaths and 2,086 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

8,596 in hospitals, 94,777 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Saturday morning that 8,596 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 1,183 of them on ventilators, with a further 94,777 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,621,686 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 3,655 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
