Poland reports 76 new coronavirus cases, 17 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 76 new coronavirus infections and 17 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,880,670 and fatalities to 75,152.

Of the new cases confirmed on Fridaythe most—11—were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 14 people with pre-existing medical conditions and three who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On Thursday, Poland confirmed 19 deaths and 93 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 17 deaths and 103 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

463 in hospitals, 98,171 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 463 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 71 of them on ventilators, with a further 98,171 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,652,409 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
