Poland reports 221 new coronavirus cases, seven more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 221 new coronavirus infections and seven more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,885,676 and fatalities to 75,306.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesdaythe most—27—were in the central Mazowieckie province, which includes the capital Warsaw.

On Monday, Poland confirmed no new deaths and 128 new coronavirus infections nationwide.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

335 in hospitals, 63,155 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 335 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 48 of them on ventilators, with a further 63,155 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,655,543 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the coming weeks as the Delta variant of the virus begins to spread more quickly.
