At the moment, the second booster is available to people aged 60 and older and those with impaired immunity aged 12 and older, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Niedzielski on Wednesday said on Twitter that so far 750,000 people from these two at-risk groups had enrolled for the fourth vaccine dose, of whom 300,000 had received it.
The health minister added: “It looks as if a fourth dose for the wider population, at least those aged 18 and older, will be available at the beginning of September.”
Poland on Wednesday reported 4,479 new coronavirus cases, including 758 reinfections. There were 16 deaths of people with COVID-19, the government said.
On the previous Wednesday, there were 3,721 new COVID-19 cases, including 618 reinfections, and 11 deaths of people with COVID-19, reporters were told.
Since March 4, 2020, when the first Polish coronavirus case was reported, there have been 6,080,398 confirmed infections and 116,608 deaths of people with COVID-19, according to officials.
In May, Poland downgraded its classification of the COVID-19 pandemic, lifting "a state of epidemic" and announcing "a state of epidemic threat" instead.
