Mateusz Morawiecki made the statement at a briefing in the central village of Osieck on Friday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The PM was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk and the European Union Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski.
Morawiecki stressed that for his government, the countryside “is the backbone of the Polish economy and an indispensable part of a modern economy.”
He went on to say: “A modern, wealthy Polish countryside, a countryside that is changing while at the same time preserving beautiful Polish tradition, is the mainstay of Polish culture and Polish economy.”
EUR 25 billion over 5 years for Polish countryside
The PM announced that the EU had approved Poland’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) national strategic plan.
On the basis of the plan, the government will be able to allocate “EUR 25 billion over the next few years” for “the development of family farms, for the development of Polish agricultural farms,” Morawiecki told reporters.
The PM noted that the funds would be provided by the government as well as EU schemes such as the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
“EUR 25 billion will be made available over the next five years,” Kowalczyk stated.
Morawiecki told reporters that the new strategic plan for the Polish countryside “will lift Polish farming, the Polish countryside, to an even higher level of development.”
“The Polish state will continue to allocate huge resources, this is our obligation, so that Polish farmers can conquer… European markets,” the PM said.
