Zbigniew Rau on Monday met with John Bolton, a former US ambassador to the United Nations and ex-White House national security adviser, to discuss "international security concerns and NATO's defence in the context of Russia's invasion of Ukraine," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

While in the US capital, the Polish foreign minister also met with the head of the Atlantic Council think tank, Fred Kempe, for talks on "humanitarian aid to Ukraine" and "violations of humanitarian law by Russian troops."

Rau on Monday also visited the Polish embassy in Washington for a meeting focusing on transatlantic relations, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

In yet another stop on his itinerary, Rau met with a group of Polish Americans to highlight "the vital role of the Polish diaspora in the social and economic life" of the United States, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

Poland's foreign ministry spokesman Łukasz Jasina was quoted as saying at the weekend that Rau's visit to Washington would be "a continuation of an intensive bilateral political dialogue between Poland and the US."

Jasina told reporters at the time that Rau's trip to Washington would include "talks with members of the US Congress, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, congressmen from the Polish Caucus, and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives."
