Poland's Andrzej Duda and Portugal's Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also spoke about Europe's energy security in the wake of the Ukraine war when they met in the Maltese capital Valletta on Wednesday, according to the Polish president's top foreign policy aide, Jakub Kumoch.
The Polish president on Wednesday started a two-day visit to Malta, with plans to discuss the Ukraine war at a summit of the so-called Arraiolos Group of countries, according to officials.
The Arraiolos Group summit, scheduled for Thursday, is expected to focus on "some of the most pressing issues, such as the security of the eastern and southern flanks of the NATO alliance," according to Kumoch.
Other topics include the European Union's cohesion policy and "the latest challenges facing the bloc," Kumoch told reporters ahead of the meeting.
The Arraiolos Group brings together heads of state from EU member countries that have parliamentary rather than presidential models of government, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The group is named after the small Portuguese town where the first such meeting took place in 2003.
