Andrzej Duda made the declaration at a meeting with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and other leaders of Belarusian democratic opposition on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The president hosted his Belarusian guests at Warsaw's Belweder Palace, according to officials.
Duda told the gathering: “We want to share a border with a free, sovereign, independent Belarus, whose society, whose brotherly nation, determines its own affairs.”
He added: “We don’t want to have a border with a territory occupied by Russia, where there is a Russian army that fights a free, sovereign society.”
The president stressed: “We support you and will continue to support you, so that you regain your free, sovereign, independent homeland.”
Duda went on to say: “This meeting symbolises the fact that Poland welcomes you with all its heart. We want you to feel that you are among brothers. For this moment to give you relief, but also a boost, knowing that you are not alone.”
Duda added that "the Polish and Belarusian nations have much in common when it comes to culture, tradition and history."
“Christmas time always signifies the same things for all of us: family warmth, a wonderful, special atmosphere, goodness and love,” he told the meeting.
Tsikhanouskaya said: “It’s true that difficult times are the test of true friendship. Poland has just demonstrated this.”
She added, as quoted by the PAP news agency: “The dictatorship [of Alexander Lukashenko] will fall, while these ties, these friendships which are being forged, will remain with us for decades."
