Several thousand police officers will be out on the roads around the country, paying special attention to the speed at which vehicles travel during the holiday period, Poland’s PAP news agency reported on Friday.
Officers will also be checking to make sure drivers are sober and that all passengers, including children, are properly buckled up, according to Robert Opas from the National Police Headquarters.
The Safe Christmas Weekend road safety campaign began on Friday morning and runs until Tuesday, December 27, when many Poles will be returning home from the holiday break.
During last year’s Christmas break, eight people were killed and 145 injured in 112 accidents on Polish roads, according to police statistics.
