Mariusz Kamiński announced the move at a news conference near the border with Belarus on Saturday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The interior minister told the media in the eastern town of Terespol: “In line with the guidance of the European Commission regarding the ban on the entry of Russian-registered cars to the European Union, published on September 8, this ban will be introduced on the Polish border tomorrow, coming into force at midnight.”
Kamiński added that “no passenger car registered in Russia will be allowed to cross into Poland,” complementing “the ban on the entry of Russian trucks introduced earlier.”
The interior minister added that the ban applies to “all Russian-registered vehicles, both commercial and private,” regardless of whether a car is owned by a citizen of Russia or another country, the PAP news agency reported.
Kamiński stated: “This is another sanction imposed on Russia and the citizens of this country over the brutal war in Ukraine. Due to the fact that today, the Russian state poses a threat to international security.”
Saturday is day 570 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
