Poland’s military chiefs resign

The chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army and its operational commander have both resigned from their posts, news outlets reported on Tuesday.

Gen. Rajmund Andrzejczak, who headed Poland’s General Staff, resigned without naming reasons for his decision, a spokesperson for the military command confirmed on Tuesday, as cited by state news agency PAP.

Andrzejczak took charge of the General Staff of the Polish Army in 2018. At the same time, President Andrzej Duda designated him as the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces in Wartime.

Prior to this, Andrzejczak headed the 16th Mechanised Division of the Polish Army, and served on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, the PAP news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski, the operational commander of the Polish army, has also tendered his resignation, the General Staff in Warsaw confirmed on Tuesday.

Both Andrzejczak and Piotrowski submitted their resignations to Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak on Monday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
