"The safety of Polish citizens abroad has always been and will remain the highest priority of Polish diplomacy," the Polish foreign ministry said in a social media post.

It added that the Polish "diplomatic and consular service" was working "day and night" to "enable our compatriots stranded in the Gaza Strip to leave it safely."

The Polish foreign ministry said in a statement at the end of last week that "the evacuation of Polish citizens from Gaza has not yet taken place only by reasons attributable to other countries and entities."

It added at the time that it was continuing to "demand that Polish citizens be allowed a safe evacuation."

Meanwhile, hundreds of Polish citizens have been successfully evacuated from Israel, according to officials.

The war in Gaza began after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel on October 7.

Poland earlier this month condemned civilian deaths in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and called on all sides to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East.
