Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak attended a ceremony in central Warsaw where the country’s police force was praised for its commitment and daily service to the community.
Tusk said during the ceremony at the Polish capital’s Castle Square that his government had set aside an extra PLN 1 billion (EUR 230,000, USD 250,000) for the force in next year's budget.
Siemoniak thanked Poland’s police officers, saying they were admired for their hard work and sacrifice.
He told the gathering that the police "plays an important role in combating acts of sabotage masterminded by Russian security services" and in protecting Poland's border with Russia's ally Belarus amid Moscow's war against Ukraine.
Wednesday marked Police Day in Poland and 105 years since the country’s state police force was established by parliament on July 24, 1919.
