“We will cover loan installments for 12 months - by which I mean the state, through the Support Fund for Borrowers,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Tusk stressed that this measure constitutes a forgiveness, not a deferral, and assured flood victims, “At least for a year, you will have peace from loan repayments.”

Government to cover flood victims' loan payments for 12 months

Finance Minister Andrzej Domański stated that the loan forgiveness will be uniform, regardless of the installment amounts, and emphasized that the support will not require repayment.

Minister Domański also noted that applications can be made both in paper and electronically and mentioned that he has already consulted with the President of the Polish Bank Association and leaders of major Polish financial institutions about the initiative.

"I have received assurances that work on a system for deferring payments on mortgages, personal loans, and loans taken out by small and medium-sized businesses is very advanced," said the Finance Minister in Wrocław.

"Those with housing loans will be able to benefit from the Support Fund for Borrowers. Assistance will be provided if the borrower has lost, even temporarily, the ability to use their home or residential property," the politician added.

Price controls and legal measures planned to combat flood exploitation

The Polish Prime Minister assured that the government would impose official price controls on certain products in flood-affected areas if needed.

PM Tusk noted that in Kłodzko, essential items have become significantly more expensive since the flood.

“I warn those who are speculating and trying to profit from the flood and human tragedy that there are legal tools related to states of emergency,” said Donald Tusk.

The head of the Polish government added that, from the perspective of those trying to profit, it would be wise to return to pre-flood prices, as the government will rigorously apply legal measures.

These measures are available under the state of disaster declared in certain areas.
