Nineteen former soldiers who sustained permanent injuries while serving on missions in various countries are taking part in the camp in Mrągowo, northeastern Poland, state news agency PAP reported on Monday.

The Invictus Games is an annual sporting event in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.

The tradition was started in 2014 by Britain’s Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

The 2025 Invictus Games will be held from February 8 to 16 in Vancouver Whistler, Canada. They are expected to bring together more than 500 competitors from around the world.

Veterans from over 20 nations are gearing up to compete in 11 adaptive sports, including swimming and wheelchair rugby, in addition to Alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing and biathlon.

The training camp in Mrągowo runs until Friday, with support from Poland’s defence ministry.

The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for defence personnel who are striving to overcome physical and emotional challenges, according to the event's website.
