The summit brought together leaders from across Europe to address pressing regional challenges and the EU's future role on the global stage.
Tusk highlighted the importance of unity, noting that “building a cohesive, stable European policy, particularly in security, remains a top priority.”
He added that his administration would continue working with the United States to strengthen Polish-American relations, regardless of changing political dynamics in Washington.
On the sidelines of the summit, Tusk met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Starmer reaffirmed the historic relationship between Poland and the UK, describing the bond as enduring and based on shared values. He emphasized that, in an increasingly unstable world, reinforcing these common principles and setting a path forward remains critical.
Tusk expressed his commitment to maintaining strong ties with Britain, particularly in areas of security and immigration policy.
“For me, it’s essential to sustain good, strong relations with you and your country,” he told Starmer.
On Friday, Tusk is set to meet with Macron again and attend a plenary session of the informal European Council meeting.
The session will cover a range of strategic issues, including a new European competitiveness pact aimed at strengthening the EU’s autonomy and future-readiness, as outlined in the Council’s strategic plan for 2024–2029.
The leaders will also discuss reports presented by former Italian Prime Ministers Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi.
Letta’s report, Much More than a Market, examines ways to improve the EU’s single market, which upholds the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital across member states.
Draghi’s report, prepared in collaboration with European Commission experts, addresses the growing investment gap between the EU and the US since the 2008 financial crisis.
The Council’s agenda includes discussions on energy sovereignty, climate neutrality, and defense, as well as how to advance a circular economy and renew industrial sectors.
Leaders will also explore EU-US relations in the context of global security, particularly concerning Ukraine, and will assess ways to cooperate on climate change and other global challenges.
