"Backstage at CPAC, President Trump met with President Andrzej Duda of Poland and reaffirmed our close alliance," the White House said in an X post, after the two leaders held talks on the sidelines of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in suburban Washington.
"President Trump also praised President Andrzej Duda for Poland’s commitment to increase their defense spending," the White House added.
The Polish President's Office said on X that Duda and Trump discussed Poland's security amid Russia's ongoing war in neighbouring Ukraine.
It added that Trump "confirmed he envisions strengthening the American presence in Poland rather than reducing it."
During the meeting, Trump "firmly stated that he wants the war in Ukraine to end, that it breaks his heart to see Ukrainian cities destroyed, and that the only way forward is to engage in talks with Vladimir Putin," according to the Polish President's Office.
After his meeting with Trump, Duda attended the CPAC conference, a major conservative gathering in the United States, the Polish President's Office said.
Duda's talks with Trump came a day after Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski attended the CPAC conference and met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss Russia's nearly three-year-old war against Ukraine and efforts to bring peace to the country.
'No other way to stop bloodshed and achieve lasting peace'
Duda said on Friday he had spoken on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss ways of achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine and the US administration's negotiations with Moscow.
"I conveyed to him that we consistently believe there is no other way to stop the bloodshed and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine except with the support of the United States," Duda wrote on X.
Duda urges 'calm and constructive cooperation' with Trump
"For this reason, I suggested to President Zelensky to remain committed to the course of calm and constructive cooperation with US President Donald Trump," Duda added.
"I trust that good will and honesty form the foundation of the U.S. negotiation strategy," Duda also said in his post.
Trump 'guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability'
The Polish president further shared that he was in "no doubt that President Trump is guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability and peace."
Poland’s National Security Council is set to gather on Monday for key discussions on national unity in the face of international challenges, following a decision by Duda earlier this week.
Monday will mark three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland's neighbour to the east.
