The name is a play on words, combining “KO” from Janusz Korwin-Mikke and “BRA” from Grzegorz Braun, both former Konfederacja leaders who have since been sidelined. It also refers to the cobra, a venomous snake, symbolizing their attempt to strike back politically.

KOBRA's political bite

To circumvent Poland’s electoral rules, which require coalitions to win at least 8% of the vote but only 5% for a single party, KOBRA is being formed as a new entity rather than a coalition.

While Korwin-Mikke and Braun are behind its creation, the party will reportedly be led by Roman Fritz, a figure from Braun’s political circle.

Political scandal-makers

Korwin-Mikke and Braun co-founded Konfederacja, which entered the Polish Parliament in 2019, but their influence waned over time.

Korwin-Mikke was sidelined after the party’s poor 2023 election results, while Braun was expelled in early 2024 after launching an independent presidential bid. Braun, a far-right politician known for antisemitic rhetoric and scandals, sparked outrage in late 2023 when he used a fire extinguisher to put out Hanukkah candles in Parliament.
