Aid financed by the Polish foreign ministry reaches poor people in countries that accept refugees from regions affected by armed conflict, according to the polskapomoc.gov.pl website.

The report comes as World Humanitarian Day is being marked around the globe on Monday, with a focus on honouring women who risk their lives to help victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters.

The Polish foreign ministry works in partnership with organisations including Catholic charity Caritas Polska, the Polish Centre for International Aid Foundation, the Club of Catholic Intelligentsia, Polish Humanitarian Action and the Polish Medical Mission.

The Polish foreign ministry is expected to finance PLN 24.3 million (EUR 5.8 million) worth of humanitarian aid this year, according to polskapomoc.gov.pl.

Meanwhile, Poland’s minister for humanitarian aid, Michał Woś, was quoted as saying on Monday that Poland last year allocated around PLN 2.8 billion (EUR 640 million) for official development assistance (ODA), which includes humanitarian aid.

This year Poland will likely allocate more PLN 3 billion for official development assistance, Woś said, as quoted by state news agency PAP.
