Zbigniew Rau was hosted by King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and by Jordan’s top diplomat Ayman Safadi in the capital Amman on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Polish-Jordanian relations are 'exemplary’

The Polish foreign minister told a news briefing afterwards that relations between Poland and Jordan were “exemplary,” while Poland’s relations with "the Arab countries in general" were “essentially good.”

Rau said: “For instance, in September 2021, when the Belarusian regime began recruiting migrants in the Middle East and then sending them to the Polish border, I asked Jordan’s foreign minister to have this Jordanian channel blocked. Now I can say with satisfaction that four days after our conversation, the route was blocked.”

Prospects for peace in the Middle East

Poland’s top diplomat told reporters: “During the audience with King Abdullah II, we discussed the prospects for the Middle East peace process,” adding that "according to the Jordanian monarch, a lot will depend on the results of Israeli elections on November 1.”

King Abdullah II “favours a policy of small steps, pursued together with like-minded fellow Arab countries,” Rau said.

He added: “The Jordanian side, like Poland, emphasises that the only way to ensure political stability and peace in the Middle East, is to have two states, Israel and Palestine.”

War in Ukraine, economic cooperation

Referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rau told reporters that Jordan "regards Russia as the aggressor, but above all stresses the need to put a swift end to the war.”

Meanwhile, an important topic of bilateral talks with Jordan’s leaders was Polish-Jordanian economic cooperation, Rau said on Tuesday.

A day earlier, the Polish foreign minister, who serves as Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 2022, addressed the OSCE’s annual Mediterranean Conference, which was held in the Jordanian capital, the PAP news agency reported.

Tuesday was day 244 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
