Over 250 hostages, including Alex Danzig, were kidnapped. Danzig, a Warsaw-born historian known for promoting Polish-Israeli relations, was confirmed dead on July 22, 2024. In response, Israel launched a war against Hamas, with over 41,600 Palestinian casualties reported.
On the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, a memorial plaque for Alex Dancyg was unveiled at the Jewish Cemetery in Warsaw, thanks to the Jewish Religious Community.
Dancyg, who worked at Yad Vashem and lived in a kibbutz near Gaza, was abducted during the attack. He was a prominent figure in Polish-Israeli relations, organizing educational trips for Israeli and Polish groups.
The plaque highlights his contributions to dialogue and education. Rabbi Michael Schudrich emphasized the need for a global stance against violent attacks on civilians.

Yuval Danzig, the son of slain hostage Alex Danzig, attended the ceremony unveiling a commemorative plaque.
In an interview with TVP World, he discussed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, emphasizing that "the resolution must originate from the international community." He also shared that his uncle remains among the hostages still being held by Hamas terrorists.
