"Regardless of who wins in the U.S., the attention and resources of the United States are shifting to the Pacific and the competition with China. The U.S. cannot engage in two wars simultaneously. Europe should take security matters seriously," said the head of Polish diplomacy in a conversation with Radio Tok FM on Monday.
The Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the claims made by representatives of the conservative PiS party that Donald Tusk's government focused solely on supporting Kamala Harris in the U.S. elections are untrue.
Polish government clarifies support for both U.S. presidential candidates
According to Sikorski, it is not correct that the Polish government has only backed the Democratic nominee.
He emphasized that Poland is not making the "mistake of PiS," which in the past openly supported only the Republican contender. The new government in Poland is currently "covering" both bases and maintaining a responsible approach.
Sikorski also referred to earlier comments by PiS deputy leader Mariusz Błaszczak, who suggested that if Donald Trump wins, the government should resign. He expressed astonishment that PiS believes the Polish government depends on the results of elections in another country, which contradicts the notion of sovereignty.
Poland advocates for greater European security amid U.S. Election
The Foreign Minister pointed out that Europe must stop relying on the U.S. for security matters, especially considering the shifting American resources towards the Pacific.
He highlighted the importance of building common European military forces and the need to strengthen Europe's defense industry.
Recent polls show strong support for Harris among Polish women
Polls conducted in Poland just before the conclusion of the U.S. presidential campaign indicate that Kamala Harris may have greater support among Polish women, with 77% favoring her compared to only 9% for Trump.
Among men, the trend reversed, with 55% choosing Trump. Approximately 11.2% of respondents were undecided about which candidate would be better for Poland.
