The diplomatic mission has returned to the heart of the city, located on Unter den Linden avenue, just 300 meters from the famous Brandenburg Gate.
The Polish embassy had been at this location since the late PRL era until the fall of communism and remained there after the reunification of Germany until 2000.
In the mid-1990s, there were discussions about whether to renovate or demolish the embassy building, which contained asbestos, and in the following years, the project was delayed several times due to changes in government and funding issues.
Finally, in 2016, the old building was torn down, and the new embassy, considered the most modern Polish diplomatic mission, was opened in 2025 by Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Berlin's new Polish embassy: a modern diplomatic hub
"Polish diplomats work in the heart of the German capital, neighboring the embassies of the USA, France, and the UK," emphasized Magdalena Szuber-Zasacka, spokesperson for the Polish embassy in Germany.
The building at Unter den Linden 70-72 "is one of the most representative structures in central Berlin," she noted.
The new embassy features modern representative rooms, numerous office spaces for the staff (embassy and consulate), apartments for employees, and hotel rooms.
Eco-friendly and state-of-the-art: Poland's most advanced diplomatic mission
Equipped with eco-friendly solutions, including green terraces on the roof, a rainwater collection system, and energy from renewable sources, the embassy also offers electric vehicle charging stations, a spacious multifunctional hall, and consulate facilities to ensure comfortable service for citizens and promote Poland in Germany.
During the grand opening, guests were welcomed by Jan Tombiński, chargé d'affaires ad interim of Poland in Germany, with a performance of Chopin's Grand Polonaise by pianist Paweł Kowalski.
