The medal recognizes individuals whose mission aligns with that of its patron, Jan Nowak-Jeziorański, and is awarded for outstanding contributions to strengthening Poland’s ties with the West, fostering Euro-Atlantic relations, and promoting values cherished by Warsaw Uprising fighters.

In a special video message, former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski acknowledged Rasmussen’s key role in the final negotiations of Poland’s accession to the European Union, expressing gratitude for his support.

Accepting the award, Rasmussen dedicated it to all those who, like Jan Nowak-Jeziorański, have fought and continue to fight for freedom.
