"Friendship means partnership. Partnership means really and truly reciprocal tariffs. Adequate decisions are needed," announced the head of the Polish government via X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the U.S. president's speech.

On Thursday, the head of Poland’s Ministry of Finance also published a comment on the matter. "This is not an optimistic morning for consumers and businesses, but Poland and Europe will emerge from this stronger," emphasized Andrzej Domański.

President Trump imposes new reciprocal tariffs on imports

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order imposing reciprocal tariffs of at least 10% on imported goods, with rates for EU products set at 20%. These tariffs aim to equal half of the total tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers imposed by other countries.

Tariffs on China will reach 34%, combining with the previously announced 20% tariffs for a total of 54%. Other countries will also face new tariffs, with Japan at 24%, India at 26%, and South Korea at 25%.

Following the announcement, leaders from several countries, including Australia, Japan, China, the UK, and Italy, responded. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also promised a response to the U.S. tariffs.
