The event was set to be one of the highlights of Poland’s turn at the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in August.
During the briefing, UN Security Council members were expected to “see into the challenges of complying with and developing international law,” the Polish foreign ministry said ahead of the gathering.
It added that the high-level briefing coincided with the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Conventions, the cornerstone of international humanitarian law.
“Poland attaches great importance to the observance of international law and the protection of civilians,” the Polish foreign ministry also said.
Poland’s Czaputowicz told reporters in Warsaw at the end of last month that his country would organise several high-profile events during its month-long stint at the helm of the United Nations Security Council.
These include a debate on security in the Middle East on August 20, and a debate on religious freedom on August 22.
Poland's top diplomat on August 2 attended a UN Security Council debate in New York on children in armed conflicts.
Poland on January 1, 2018 became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term that ends on December 31, 2019.
Poland held the rotating presidency of the 15-member Council in May last year.
The country again took over at the helm of the Council on August 1.
