The newspaper said that according to experts, NATO anti-aircraft systems are not capable of intercepting the RS30 missiles.
Izvestia reported that the deployment of the RS30 rocket artillery systems in Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave, which is sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic coast, was "a symmetrical response to the strengthening of (NATO) Alliance forces in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe."
The newspaper cited Colonel Vladimir Anochin as saying that all weapons systems which are deployed against Russia in neighbouring countries and which are in range of the RS30 missiles can now be quickly destroyed.
"US anti-missile defences in Poland will prove useless," he was cited as saying.
Citing sources in the Russian defence ministry, Izvestia added that Russian "soldiers and officers are mastering the new equipment."
