“The interests of the United States coincide with Poland’s interests to a great degree. This includes stopping Russia, maintaining strong transatlantic ties […] and serious American business interests in Central Europe,” Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński was quoted as saying by the Rzeczpospolita daily.

“Democrats also understand this very well, which can be observed in their tough attitude in Congress towards Nord Stream 2; sanction laws against Russia had cross-party support in Congress,” Jabłoński added.

On Thursday, Biden moved closer to victory in the US presidential race as election officials counted votes in the handful of states that will determine the outcome, the Reuters news agency reported.

In an interview with the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily, the chief of staff to the Polish president, Krzysztof Szczerski, said: “We have managed to build solid foundations for Polish-American cooperation that are not based only on personal relations with President Trump”.

He added: “I don't think Joe Biden as the possible new president wants a reset with Russia.”

Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said on Wednesday that “Polish-American relations are currently so strong, there are so many realized […] common interests, and these are strategic interests, that this alliance has a systemic dimension in international relations.”
