Mosbacher, who was the first woman to become America’s envoy to Poland, will be handed the Grand Cross of the Polish Order of Merit at a ceremony in Warsaw on Tuesday, state news agency PAP reported.

In late December, she announced that she had resigned as ambassador, effective as of January 20,  when Democrat Joe Biden will be inaugurated after his win in the November US presidential election.

Mosbacher, who is privately a Florida businesswoman and a Republican fundraiser, took up her post as ambassador to Poland in September 2018.

In April 2019, Mosbacher launched a campaign to help Poland join the US Visa Waiver Program. In November that year, the US lifted its visa requirement for Poles.

The Polish Order of Merit, established in 1992, is awarded to foreigners and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad who have made an outstanding contribution to international cooperation and Poland’s ties with other nations.
