While in Vienna, Poland’s Zbigniew Rau is expected to meet OSCE Secretary-General Helga Schmid and hold talks with the Head of the Swedish Delegation to the organization, Ulrika Funered.

Rau is due to take over as the new OSCE Chairperson-in-Office (CiO) from Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde, and will hold that position for one year.

In his role as OSCE CiO, Rau will be expected to co-ordinate the work of OSCE institutions, represent the organization, and supervise its activities in areas including conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation.

The OSCE chairmanship is assumed at yearly intervals by one participating country.

Poland previously chaired the organization in 1998.
